Following the recent gun-angst on FB, I have brainstormed a
perfect win-win all-American solution: Insurance! Everyone has a right to drive
(unless they are under-age, incompetent, etc), but car owners are required to
carry liability insurance… and the same will be true of gun owners.
Now, the way insurance
works is to average the loss from various causes, and actuaries could easily do
the same with respect to shootings of all sort. Of course this will not
eliminate all shootings, but at least various social costs can be estimated and
paid for: the cost of wrongful death and injury, psychological trauma, the cost
of making schools safer, etc.
A pretty good solution,
because it is SO American: not only will the Snowflakes be happy, but huge
insurance companies and capital funds will LOVE it… no doubt bill’s greatest
lobbyists!
